Our Team Showcase series was born from the desire to highlight what makes each member of our team unique. What are the quirks, passions and hallmarks that distinguish each individual? And when it comes to integrating yourself into that team, how do you ensure your values shine through while seamlessly reflecting that of the company’s?

Kieran Spillane has done just that. Joining us at just the beginning of February, we’re chatting with our new Divisional Lead for Qualified Accounting, just six weeks into his new role. Having moved halfway across the world to broaden his horizons and strive for continuous personal career development, Kieran describes his experience so far as “brilliant,” brimming with “even more positive energy than expected.”

Kieran began his career in Dublin, where he received quality training and swiftly progressed to a leadership role within a multinational company in the Qualified Accounting space. After traversing back to his roots in Cork for nine months, he conducted extensive research in the Melbourne market, knowing exactly what type of role he wanted and contemplating the momentous relocation Australia. “TwoScots ticked all the boxes in terms of culture, the type of people in the company and the role that was on offer,” he says.

An opportunity for a leadership position that would play to his strengths made this an incredibly alluring career move. From the outset, the more boutique, highly collaborative environment at TwoScots enticed Kieran. Put simply, “everyone helps each other out and I love this aspect of [TwoScots] so far,” he says. When quizzed on what exactly makes his approach to recruiting unique, Kieran’s ethos is earnest and simple: “I’m a people person; I like to meet people, get to know them and fully understand their needs. I want to have long-lasting relationships with clients so that I can fully facilitate their needs, keeping lines of communication open.”

But what exactly does his role entail? Admittedly, Kieran notes that there’s “no such thing as a typical day”, managing two senior consultants, as well as running his own desk. He oversees roles for qualified accountants in the areas of IT, telecommunications, utility, entertainment, hospitality and not-for-profits, reaching out to clients in these sectors to foster relationships in the Melbourne market. “I’m trying to develop as many relationships as possible over the next few months and speak to as many candidates as possible, understanding what companies are on the lookout, in order to successfully place people in the right roles.”

Hitting the ground running, Kieran’s strong proclivity for leadership is clear, having already worked to develop new initiatives at TwoScots. In fact, he’s in the midst of planning an event in April focused around mental health in the workplace and he is currently liaising with the AFL Players Association to promote wellbeing within the office walls and beyond. A powerful networking opportunity as well as a step forward in eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health in the workplace and sport, a topic that we strongly feel needs greater awareness around. Undoubtedly, the event will allow him to continue to develop and nurture client relationships, increase his understanding in the localised market, raise greater awareness around the importance of understanding mental health and, of course, familiarising himself with the iconic Melbourne footy culture.

Reflecting on noteworthy achievements in his short time at TwoScots, Kieran cherishes playing an integral part in helping a “fellow Irishman” secure his “dream role” in finance aviation here in Melbourne, as well as forging friendships within our ‘wee bit different’ family. With sights firmly fixed on future success, he expresses a strong desire to “increase the performance of each team member and the stature of the consultants on [his] team.”
