Why we #giveascot about breast cancer

TwoScots has always prided itself on being a ‘wee bit different’, both in our approach to business and our overarching goals. We have maintained a constant focus on giving back to the community and keeping sight of issues that are greater than our day-to-day. For 2019, we’re extremely proud to announce the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) as our official charity partner, with a host of fundraising initiatives and activities planned to raise funds and awareness for this urgent cause.

Why we #giveascot about breast cancer

Did you know that breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with eight women dying from the disease every day? Along with this shocking statistic, incidence is also on the rise. More mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, friends and families are being impacted by the disease, and we’re incredibly determined to help the BCNA in changing that. After all, every bit counts and we genuinely #giveascot.

We’ve seen, first-hand, the challenges some of our nearest and dearest faced following a family member’s diagnosis with breast cancer. Our Director, Jason, lost his mum to breast cancer, sparking the intention to raise $20K for the 20-year anniversary of her passing this year. “My mum passed away after a long battle with breast cancer at the age of 56. She was first diagnosed at 48. I’ll be 48 this year, and I am now at that age where some of my friends have unfortunately received their own cancer diagnosis,” explains Jason.

The BCNA is an inspiring league of more than 120,000 Australians who are passionate about making a difference. More than 90 per cent of the BCNA’s members have had a diagnosis of breast cancer, and the remaining members have had a personal experience through a family member or friend. From morning teas to fashion parades and fun runs, the BCNA run an impressive string of fundraising and awareness-based events that will inspire our own initiatives.

“Treatments and medicine have come so far over the last 20 years, but there is still more to do. When I discussed with the TwoScots team that I wanted to get behind BCNA, I was so proud of their drive, initiative and many ideas they have to raise funds,” Jason says.

Because we love nothing more than getting active, some of our upcoming team fundraising initiatives include a Client Golf Day, Fun Runs, networking events and more individual team-member undertakings yet to be announced. With the TwoScots family feeling resoundingly inspired to fight breast cancer, we’re keeping our partnership with BCNA at the forefront of everything we do this year. To kick it all off, we recently held a Bring Pink Wear Pink event at TwoScots HQ, auctioning a skydiving session and raising $1,800 towards our goal.
