Senior Bookkeeper (Part-Time)

Up to $110,000 + Super (Pro-Rata) | 3 Days Per Week | Flexible Hours | 1 Day WFH | Free Onsite Parking

Are you a hands-on Senior Bookkeeper who loves owning the full finance function from start to finish?

We're seeking an experienced finance professional to join a values-driven organisation in a standalone role where you'll take responsibility for the complete financial management of the business. This is not a role that simply prepares information for an external accountant, you'll be responsible for finalising the accounts and delivering accurate financial reporting, compliance, and governance outcomes.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys autonomy, variety, and making a meaningful impact while maintaining genuine work-life balance.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Board, you will oversee all aspects of finance, payroll, reporting, compliance, budgeting, and risk management. You'll be the go-to finance expert, providing strategic insights and ensuring the organisation maintains strong financial governance and compliance standards.

Working three days per week, you'll enjoy flexibility around how those hours are structured, including one day working from home and free onsite parking when you're in the office.

Key Responsibilities

Finance Operations

  • Manage the end-to-end finance function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Maintain financial records and ensure data integrity within Xero.
  • Process invoices, reimbursements, bank transfers, and fortnightly payroll.
  • Reconcile multiple bank accounts and oversee organisational investments and term deposits.
  • Prepare and lodge BAS, PAYG, Superannuation, Workers Compensation, and other statutory obligations.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Produce annual financial statements and supporting documentation for Board review.
  • Assist with Board and governance reporting requirements.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, cash flow forecasts, and organisational liquidity.
  • Manage audit preparation and liaise with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with AASB standards, ACNC, ASIC, ATO, and funding body requirements.
  • Track grant funding and prepare financial acquittals.

Governance & Risk

  • Maintain finance policies and internal controls.
  • Monitor financial risks and maintain the financial risk register.
  • Support compliance with procurement policies and financial delegations.
  • Train and support staff on finance processes and systems.
  • Provide financial analysis and commercial insights to support executive decision-making.

About You

You are a proactive and commercially minded finance professional who thrives in a standalone or small-team environment and enjoys taking ownership of outcomes.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance.
  • CA or CPA qualified, or actively working towards completion.
  • 3-5+ years' experience in bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, or finance administration.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior finance or bookkeeping position.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards, compliance, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced experience using Xero and Google Sheets.
  • Experience preparing management reports and presenting financial information to senior stakeholders and Boards.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with financial risk management, policy development, and process improvement.

Highly Regarded

  • Experience working within the not-for-profit, community, arts, or charitable sector.
  • Exposure to Boards, Audit Committees, or governance-focused organisations.
