About the Company

We're exclusively partnering with a purpose-driven organisation. Due to a maternity leave cover, they're looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to join the team on a 24-month fixed-term contract. This is an opportunity to lead a high-performing payroll function, mentor a small team and play a key role in improving payroll operations, reporting and systems.

  • Hybrid working model, great office location

About the Role

As the Payroll Manager, you'll lead the end-to-end delivery of a complex, fortnightly payroll supporting a large casual workforce operating under the SCHADS Award. While payroll is your primary focus, you'll also drive operational excellence through reporting, analytics, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement initiatives.

This role will suit a technically strong payroll leader who enjoys mentoring others, solving complex payroll challenges and identifying smarter ways of working. With a strong pipeline of improvement projects ahead, you'll have the opportunity to play a key role in enhancing payroll processes, reporting and systems, making a genuine impact on the future of the function.

Duties

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of a fortnightly payroll
  • Manage, coach and develop a small team (with support from the ELT)
  • Ensure compliance across PAYG, Superannuation, Payroll Tax and SCHADS Award requirements
  • Deliver payroll reporting, reconciliations and post-payroll analytics
  • Drive continuous improvement across payroll processes and controls
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to resolve complex payroll matters
  • Support payroll enhancement projects and operational improvements
  • Monitor payroll data integrity and identify opportunities for greater efficiencies

Skills and Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of the SCHADS Award (essential)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Macros (essential)
  • Proven experience leading payroll operations within a complex environment
  • Excellent understanding of Australian payroll legislation and compliance
  • Strong analytical and reporting capability
  • Experience using BI reporting tools such as Power BI or similar (highly regarded)
  • Experience with payroll systems and payroll improvement projects
  • A collaborative leadership style with the ability to mentor and develop a team
